When we are out traveling around the world, as much as we enjoy every minute of it, there is no saying what could happen to us during the trip. A lot of globetrotters look for fun and daring adventures, but it can get quite dangerous. Often time, we hear stories of people scraping their legs pretty badly during a hike or getting stung by a jellyfish during a dive. Accidents do happen, and we need to be prepared for all of it.
This is the reason why getting insurance for your travels is very important. You can easily get a travel insurance quote once you start inquiring different providers. However, that task can be a little bit daunting. We want to get the most out of the insurance, but we are not sure about the policy we should get.
What to Look for in a Travel Insurance
We have created a guide that can help you decide what you want to be covered by your travel insurance.
Medical coverage
You should know that there are policies that cover medical treatment and evacuation. This includes the medicine administered, the transportation, and the fees for the medical practitioner should you need to be transferred to another hospital. Of course, you still need to discuss the specifics with your provider such as how much coverage you can get and what conditions are covered.
You should also check if you can get coverage for when you are doing sports activities like mountain climbing, rafting, and so on. There are policies that specify what kind of sports and activities related incidents will be covered.
Coverage for personal belongings
There are policies that offer coverage for when your baggage is lost or damaged. Make sure you know how much will be covered and if it is enough to cover everything inside the bag. Consider upgrading or modifying the terms of the policy if it is needed.
Additionally, you should check if valuables are part of the policy. Items like jewellery, gadgets, passports and whatnot are usually excluded. So go over the terms of your agreement and double check if you can make a claim and in under what circumstances.
Covers all of your destinations
It is easy if you are only planning to go to one destination, it is a different story if you want to travel to multiple destinations. Make sure that all of these destinations are covered, even the stopover. Just remember: if you are going to spend a night in a certain place, get that covered.
Understand what is not included in the policy
Do expect that not everything is going to be covered. So go over the disclosure statement again and see which is not covered by the policy before you make a purchase. This also gives you an idea about what to avoid and how you can take extra steps to be careful.
Of course, this list is not definitive because there are some things better discussed with the provider. But this can guide your discussions and help you feel safer and secure during your trip.
