While lots of things can be a fun idea as an impulse buy, a car should not be one. Especially not a used one. You need to consider what kind of car best fit your family’s needs and will also will fit into your budget. This is to help you and the dealer find the right car for you family, while making an informed decision.   Here are seven things you need to do before buying a used car.

1. Set your budget. You need to set a price range that you know you can afford, that will get you the car that you want but it will also help you have a starting point when you start looking for cars. Tell the salesman your budget, but don’t give him your exact price until you are talking about the final price. Let him make you an offer. Also keep in mind that a budget for a used car should also include enough funds for an inspection and any small repairs it may need.

2. Know what you want and do your research. Know what you need in your vehicles. You should have thought about the key things that your car needs. How many seats do you need? Are there certain other features that are a deal breaker for you? What other things would be a nice bonus   Then do your research. You do not want to walk into the dealership without the ideas of what those things should cost you or if they are even possible in your price range. Look at classifieds, look at the dealer’s site, just browse for the vehicles that best fit your description and needs before walking into a dealer.
