I received tickets to the Virginia Beach Aquarium and a gift card to Bubba’s Seafood Restaurant & Crabhouse for review. All thoughts are my own.
It has been a very busy cheer season with my daughters. We have been traveling all over, but we rarely get to have any fun because it is a tight schedule between school and the cheer competition and then getting back home to life again. At our recent competition in Virginia Beach, which was 2 days long, we decided to extend the vacation and stay for an extra day.
We visited Virginia Beach a few years ago and had one of the most amazing times. I love the beach it is so clean. I love the area because there are so many things to do, and I love the atmosphere. In the summer, of course, the area is much more busy than it is in March, but it is still such a nice place to visit even during the off-season.
One of our favorite places to go to when we are in Virginia Beach is the Grommet Island Beach Park. This park is a place that people of all abilities are able to go to and have fun. Originally designed after Josh Thompson was diagnosed with ALS and had to give up his love of surfing. Each year, Virginia Beach hosts the JTWalk and Beach Party to raise money for ASL.
Another great thing to do during a stay in Virginia Beach is the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. There are so many great programs that the Aquarium offers in addition to the animals.
One of my favorite animals is the komono dragon. Look how gorgeous it is. It is the only zoo or Aquarium that I have been to that has one.
I love taking the kids to the Aquarium. I love watching as they light up when they have learned something new about an animal or about the area. I love that there are so many hands on activities at the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. The kids love heading into the different little rooms and getting to test how to make the water filter through the sand of the basin or learning how there is a crater in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay and getting to actually run their hands over part of the meteor that was retrieved.
One of the things that I was looking forward to seeing the most was the aviary. Unfortunately, due to one of the storms that has hit the area over the winter, there was damage to the roof and the aviary was closed. Even still, the entire Aquarium is worth visiting and enjoying together as a family.
If you are looking for a great dinner after having spending the day walking on the boardwalk, playing in the park or visiting the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, I recommend Bubba’s Seafood Restaurant & Crabhouse. The Crabhouse features fresh seafood and amazing views to enjoy your dinner. They offer lunch and dinner and breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. If you have someone in the group who is not a seafood lover, don’t worry. Bubba’s Seafood Restaurant & Crabhouse has burgers and chicken as well.
Have you been to Virginia Beach? What are you favorite things to do?

We always visit local aquariums when we travel- I love getting up close and personal with aquatic wildlife, and it’s just so calming to see all the graceful animals in the tanks. This looks like a must stop next time we drive through!
