From almost anywhere in Maryland, Washing Dc is just a short road trip in order to see all the sights and attractions. Washington, DC is a fantastic place to visit no matter the time of year, but around Christmas time, there are so many festivities that are going on. It is time to mark your calendar and start celebrating the Christmas season. Thompson Toyota wants you to know about some free Christmas events in Washington, DC.
Attend a tree lighting ceremony. Tree lighting ceremonies are always nice. The community gathers around to see the tree lights be turned on and there is usually festivities afterwards. Here are some tree lighting in Washington DC. This is the first annual tree lighting, that will start a community tradition.
- CityCenterDC’s Holiday Tree Lighting, on November 26, 2016, between New York Ave and 9th street and 9th and H and 11th st in NW Washington DC. There will be balloon artist, face painters and jugglers in addition the other holiday activities.The tree lighting starts at 6pm.
- Norwegian Christmas Tree Lighting at Union Station, on November 30, 2016 at 6pm on Massachusetts Ave. NE. The annual ceremony includes Christmas carols and refreshments. You can also stop the Norwegian Giant Model Train exhibit that can be found in the West Hall at Union Station.
- Monroe Street Market Christmas Tree Lighting, on December 2nd, from 6-8pm at 625 Monroe St, NE. The family friendly event will give the Brookland community a fun night with live musical performances, face painting, art walks, and even photos with Santa. The night ends at 8pm, with the Ceremonial tree lighting.
Visit the Season’s Greenings at the Botanic Gardens between November 24, 2016 through January 2, 2017.See the unique exhibit that features many model trains and even has a replica of many of Washington’s famous monuments and buildings.
Festival of Lights at the Washington, DC Mormon Temple: From December 3rd until January 3rd 2017, the Mormon Temple is open to all and features more than 450,000 shining Christmas lights. Each night, there is a different musical group from the area that will be performing a live concert in the state of the art theater.
Visit the National Zoo and see the ZooLights: Frmo November 25th until January 1st, 5pm – 9pm, the National Zoo features a display of thousands of animated light, winter crafts, demonstrations, choral demonstrations, ice sculpting and stories.
Watch a parade: There are 2 Christmas parades to choose from on December 3rd.
- Manassa Christmas parade has amazing floats, celebrities, marching bands, horses, performances, huge balloons and animated characters. The parade will start on Mathis Avenue and end at the intersection of Center Street and Grant Ave.
- Middleburg Hunt Christmas parade: The parade will take place right after the hunt is over. There will be about 100 horses with riders in red coats and dozens of hounds. The parade features an assortment of floats, marching bands, community groups, old antique fire trucks and a variety of animals, including llamas and dogs.
