I can not believe it but my son has passed his drivers test. How does that happen? I mean, how does my little my little boy get big enough to be able to go out into the world, with a car, all on his own. Before I know it, he will be fulfilling his own wanderlust and will be going out on his own adventures. That means I need to make sure he remembers the things that he needs to do when he gets behind the wheel. So that he can have many more fun adventures own his own and with his friends.
Just because kids have passed the test and KNOW what to do, that doesn’t mean that they will always remember once they have gotten behind the wheel by themselves. It is important to remind them of things, every time that they leave the house, whether they are in your car or they are ready to buy a car of their own.
Always turn their phone off or into drive mode. There is never a good reason for anyone to fuss with their phone while you are driving. No texting, no messing with the radio and you shouldn’t even deal with making phone calls, not really. Pull over onto the side of the road or to a safe parking lot. Nothing is worth the accident that can follow if the driver doesn’t. Driving while using a cell phone, even hands free, is that same as driving drunk.
Use the headlights. Most cars have the headlights come on automatically now but for some reason some people still decide to turn them off. Especially in dawn or dusk when you can see to drive, the headlight make it easier for the other cars to see you.
Always follow the speed limit. That goes without saying, but sometime kids really do need the reminder. You get into a conversation or listening to the radio and that foot tends to get a little heavy. Remember to pay attention to the speed limit on the road and make sure to follow it.
Drive alone and minimize the distractions. The more distracted you are, the more likely you are to have an accident. Eating, drinking, even carrying on a conversation with someone next to you can take your attention off the road.
Driving opens up a whole world of experiences and travel options but it has to be done safely. Make sure you remember these tips and you can always have the freedom of the open road.
