If your car smells funny and you don’t know why, it can be a sign of a problem. Certain car problems are known to give the car a certain smell and it can help you narrow down what’s wrong with your car. Use this information Reedmantoll CDJR Springfield to help find what that smell means for your car.

Rubber Smell – A burning rubber smell can be caused by the drive belt slipping. Or the drive belt could have broken. If you have a manual transmission, it can also be an overheated clutch brake.

Musty Smell – If you have just turned on the AC it can cause the car to have a musty smell. It usually means that moisture has collected in the evaporator and it has grown mold. When the ac is switched on, it causes it to be pushed out of the vents.

Burning Smell – This is one of the most alarming smells for people. It can mean an oil leak or that some type of material has gotten into the engine compartment. It can be caused by aggressive braking or if the car is a manual, it can be from riding the clutch. If the smell is persistent, have it check at the dealership.

Sweet Smell – If the car smells sweet, it usually means an antifreeze leak. When antifreeze is leaking it gives off this sweet smell like syrup. Look for evidence of the leak under the car and check the antifreeze levels.

Rotten Eggs – If you smell a rotten egg smell coming from the car it is usually the exhaust. It is a sign that the catalytic converter has gone bad.

These are just some recommendations. No one can really analyze your car smell without seeing and smelling it firsthand. If your car is smelling funny, take it into a repair shop to get it checked out before the problem gets worse.
