The weather is cold and we are facing another snow and ice storm today. Life does not stop just because the weather is cold so it is important that you know that your car is ready for the winter. Different problems can come up during the winter. Be sure to make sure you are car is winter ready.

Routine Car and Tune ups. No one ever wants to break down, but breaking down during the winter months adds in new complications. Check in with your mechanic. Make sure that the car has been tuned up and that there are no leaks and worn out hoses.

Check the cooling system. There is an expensive problem when the engine block cracks. You want to make sure that that the antifreeze is full and that there is no leaks that might leave you unprepared. Most cars are fine with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water, but you need to check your owner’s manual to be sure. Fresh coolant is important to maintaining the cooling system, so if it has been a while, get a coolant flush. Old coolant will get dust and particles in it that will decrease its effectiveness.
