Everyone knows that even the most seasoned driver can be caught off guard while driving. There are some things that are beyond your control but there are some things that by using common sense helps keep you safe in the car whether you have been driving for 30 year or you were just handed your license.
Keep your car in good running order. A car that has been well maintained is a safer car. Check the tire pressure and the tire treads. You want to make sure your tires are at the right psi. Be sure to have the oil changed and check the belts. Check all of the light bulbs and make sure the wiper blades are in good shape.
Plan your trip. Before you go somewhere, know what the weather is supposed to be. You do not want to be caught unprepared during a storm. Some storms will make the road conditions dangerous and can cause road conditions that you should not be driving in. Once you know the weather, plan your trip accordingly. If there is somewhere you need to be at a certain time, plan in extra time for weather and traffic delays. Being rushed and worried about being late can cause you to drive faster than normal.
