Winter time means lots of fun for people who like cold weather and snow sports. It also means snowy and icy roads. While the snow looks beautiful when it is falling, it makes for a mess when you have to drive in it. Even people with heavy trucks can find themselves sliding off the road when they hit an icy spot.

Bad Weather Driving

Tips for driving when the roads are icy:

First of all, if you do not have to go out, don’t. If you do not have to go out, it is best to just stay home. It helps the salt trucks and plows be able to get the roads clear faster. It leaves emergency services free to deal with emergencies and not have to deal with as many car accidents. It is best to cuddle up at home with hot chocolate and have a movie day.

If you have to go out, go out during the day. The temperatures are usually higher which means a chance for less ice. Also, the roads are easier to see.

Try to stay on main roads. They are more likely to have been salted or plowed. Don’t forget that the roads are icy. People forget because the roads seem fine for long stretches. Just because the roads are fine in one place, the roads ice differently in different places. Most of the time you cannot see the ice or feel it until you are sliding or trying to stop.
